Offices of media and creative companies are often some of the most striking with this new offering for Ogilvy & Mather being no exception.

Ogilvy & Mather’s new Kuala Lumpur office was a highlight of this year’s Malaysian Interior Design Awards (MIDA) event at the Palace of Golden Horses. Designed by the Kuala Lumpur office of M Moser Associates, the project was named winner in MIDA’s ‘Office and Space Planning’ awards category for 2010.

In 2009, the Ogilvy Kuala Lumpur office also earned an Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Hong Kong. The MIDA jury cited the design for its “perfect” use of colours, adding that “It is a strong concept, not commercial but something different.”

Ogilvy and Mather Kuala Lumpur OfficeOf the project, Adrian Symons, Director, Head of Office, M Moser Kuala Lumpur remarks: “There were some very complex requirements at the heart of this project. Developing solutions was only possible through designer-client collaboration. Our partners at Ogilvy Malaysia are accordingly every bit as proud of this project as we are.”

Central to the project brief was the integration of Ogilvy Action, Ogilvy Public Relations and Redworks divisions into a single 9700 sqft office. A further priority was to create a collaborative, idea-centric, discipline-neutral environment that would reflect the Ogilvy’s ‘360º Brand Stewardship’ working philosophy.

“A striking feature of the office is a common area with a circular bar and a series of diverse lounge- and café-type settings,” notes Ramesh Subramaniam, Senior Associate at M Moser and the project’s lead designer. Other points of interest include timber-lined ‘Japanese Box’, a formal meeting room containing a circular table and tree structure, tactile fabric ‘pods’ for more intimate discussions, and an ‘Interactive Wall’ with disappearing table and stools.

From the common area, a ‘meeting corridor’ leads to a continuous flow of workspaces designed to create an interplay of ‘space below’ (the daily world) and ‘space above’ (the world of inspiration). Eye-catching details include evocative tree structures, circular openings in the ceilings, and a mix of baroque, modern, natural and industrial décor cues.
